Rigorous quality procedures implemented at temperature-controlled food distribution facility.
Bidfood Taupō is a food storage and distribution facility servicing the central North Island. It incorporates three storage and loading areas – a cold store operating at -20°C, produce and meat chillers operating at 4°C, and a dry store operating at ambient temperature. The single-storey steel portal frame and precast structure is predominantly covered with Colorsteel roofing and cladding.
We laid 3,500m2 of concrete pavement to form driveways, truck turning areas and loading docks, all built to cope with the many large vehicle movements through the facility. The insulated floor slabs use Denka concrete additive, eliminating the need for control joints and saw cutting. This minimises ongoing maintenance and reduces wear on forklift tyres.
Due to the pressure differential created by the change of temperature from outside to inside, the cold store construction needed to be vapour tight. We implemented rigorous quality procedures to ensure there were no leaks. We ran a tight ship with waste segregation too, diverting an impressive 85% of construction waste from landfill.
